Yoshihide Suga is currently serving as the Prime Minister of Japan. Suga was elected Prime Minister by the National Diet (Bicameral Legislature) in September, 2020. He served as the Chief Cabinet Secretary under former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. 11th March 2021, marked the 10 year anniversary of Tokyo Electric Power Company’s Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant meltdown, which along with the Great East Japan Earthquake and the ensuing tsunami posed as one of Japan’s biggest post-war challenges.Japan has had an ongoing energy crisis since all of Japan’s nuclear reactors were shut down. Prior to March 2011, Japan’s nuclear generating capacity provided close to 30% of the country’s electricity. Despite how indispensable nuclear energy appears to the Japanese vision of energy independence, the Japanese people have very strongly held onto their reservations pertaining to administrative motives and have rallied for greater exploration of alternative renewable energy sources. Japan’s energy minister, Horishi Kajiyama : "Solar wasn't generating. Wind wasn't generating. I'm trying to persuade everybody that in the end we need nuclear power."

Last year, the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), led by Shinzo Abe proposed the introduction of a constitutional clause which would give the cabinet power to declare and manage a national emergency. The addition, if made, would allow the Cabinet to issue directives under a national state of emergency to -protect- lives and property, without waiting for the Diet (Japan’s bicameral legislature). The demand for greater Cabinet authority comes as a result of the legislative delay in approving of a national emergency. The clause makes specific mention of earthquakes and other – disasters –; despite there being a precedence of piecemeal legislations for disasters such as the Great East Japan Earthquake, the LDP has been pushing for a new clause to deal with disasters more efficiently. As expected, most major parties in the opposition are against the idea.

Wa (和) is a Japanese cultural concept which translates into English as "harmony". It implies a peaceful unity and conformity within a social group in which members prefer the continuation of a harmonious community over their personal interests.

Human beings are considered empathetic species. In world war 1 and 2 only 15-20%
of men pulled the trigger, but recently with better conditioning and training the
shooting percentage in wars have gone as high as 85% in Vietnam war.
Mass, a psychological implant is designed for soldiers to use during war provides a
lot of benefits like strategic view of enemies. One of the most notable features of
mass is that it makes the soldier sees the enemy as a monster/boogeyman, thus
making it easier to kill the enemy.
At the height of the World War 2, the two opposing sides (Axis powers and the Allied
powers) were known to be exploring various different warring and diplomatic
strategies to end the war."3

Context 1: When WW-I erupted in Europe between the Allied (Britain, France and Russia) and Central
powers (Germany, Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria and the Ottoman Empire), the major aims of
the allies was to end jingoistic nationalism and imperialism espoused internally within the
central powers.
Given that it had taken a neutral stance, the US was one of the biggest beneficiaries of
WW1 as it was supplying weapons to both the Allies and the central powers. Due to the
convenience of non-participation and economic prosperity, most Americans held on to the
belief that they shouldn’t enter ‘somebody else’s war’.
In the initial stages of WW2, the 28th U.S. president, Woodrow Wilson continued to pledge
neutrality. As tensions heightened, Germany attempted to isolate Britain in 1915 and
announced attacks on food ships from USA supplying food to the UK. In early April 1917,
with the toll of sunken U.S. merchant ships rising, Wilson asked Congress for “a war to end
all wars” that would “make the world safe for democracy.”

Context 2: To generate public approval of the war, the idea for Committee on Public
Information, headed by George Creel (Creel Committee), came into existence. It
planned on using every medium available to create enthusiasm for the war effort
and to enlist public support against foreign and domestic attempts aimed at
stopping American participation in the war.
The CPI produced and distributed innumerable copies of pamphlets, newspaper
releases, magazine advertisements, films and school campaigns. Their effectively
planned propaganda involved strategies like the creation of sensationalist and
highly nationalistic posters which would appear in every store window to not only
influence public support but also to get to civilians listed in service.6

The stated objective of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT)
was to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons and weapons technology and
promoted the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
The NPT non-nuclear-weapon states agree never to acquire nuclear weapons and the
NPT nuclear-weapon states in exchange agree to share the benefits of peaceful
nuclear technology. The strength of the benefit of clean nuclear energy sources is
such that it could mean the difference of 50000 MW energy over half a century for
an economy reeling with the after effects of 2 wars. To put it into perspective, India’s
energy capacity in 2020 after 70 years of independence was just 6870 MW.
The treaty was opened for signature in 1968.8

Men and Women from Nepal significantly and irreplaceably contribute to the domestic assistance industry (roles: house aids, housekeepers, nurses, etc.) of Gulf Countries. For those domestic workers who are desperate to earn, the Gulf appears as an attractive destination, where salaries for domestic workers can be close to $400 per month. However, due to an increase in the accounts of vulnerable Nepali women being treated extremely poorly (subjected to long working hours, controlled mobility under the “Kafala” system - where employers often also had legal control over the women’s ability to change employment), the Nepali government was forced to address the gender and labour issue. Therefore, the Nepali government, with a stated motive of assisting the condition of Nepali women, introduced a policy that banned its citizens from travelling to Gulf countries to become domestic workers

Ashley Sumner, is the CEO and founder of Quilt, a women centric platform. Quilt, on its website says “We’re a neighborhood-based community that provides women with access to support and connection offline and online. Accessibility and inclusivity are important to us. We believe in reframing these structures so they can be used in a way to benefit the whole, and not as a way to segregate, stereotype, or limit one another..”

A few weeks ago, Ashley Sumner, the CEO of Quilt posted on LinkedIn, "I am a female founder." In the caption, she says: I am a founder. Putting my gender in front of what I am belittles what I've accomplished, and reminds women how few of us get to where I am. I'm ready to drop the gender and get right to the work I'm doing. Who's with me?

A homemaker is a person whose work is running or managing their family's home—caring for their childen; buying, cooking, and storing food for the family; buying goods that the family needs for everyday life; housekeeping, cleaning and maintaining the home; and making, buying and/or mending clothes for the family—and who is not employed outside the home.

Underground rap/hip-hop' in India is an umbrella term for hip hop music outside the general commercial music business. It is typically associated with independent artists, signed to independent labels or no label at all. Underground hip hop in India is often characterized by socially conscious, anti establishment and anti commercial lyrics.

Schitt's Creek, a Canadian sitcom, is a comic/satirical story about the struggles of a wealthy family when they are suddenly robbed off their fortunes forcing them to relocate to a small town which they once purchased as a joke. The six seasons are about how the family adjusts to life without money and with each other.
While the show deals with issues such as family relations, social relations, class conflicts, etc., one of the major plots of the show revolves around a gay love story, the portrayal of which is one of its kind because the town of Schitt's Creek is devoid of bigotry, homophobia, racism and colourism. One of the creators David Levy said in an interview- " I'm not going to have bigotry or homophobia ever discussed in this town...We will not give power to that (bigoted) perspective... I don't ever consider our show to be very political, but I suppose that decision to just say, ‘We're never going to show the dark side,’ is the quiet politics of our show."
On one hand, the show has been widely praised for its story and the way its queer characters are simply accepted by the other characters with no expressions of homophobia in the storyline and the two gay protagonists (amongst other queer and non white characters) and their love story facing no discrimination in the town.
On the other hand, some critics argue that the show 'neatly sidesteps divisive social issues', accusses its 'White writer's room' of 'pinkwashing' and being classist while dealing with certain plotlines, having tokenistic diversity in an otherwise predominantly white cast (a black queer woman, a brown immigrant with Indian accent etc.) and most importantly, creating "a privileged inclusive utopia" in an attempt to normalize the idea of a gay love story.
The show sweeped the recently held 72nd Primetime Emmy awards in 2020.
